WHAT IS A BISTRO?
The Origin of the word Bistro is difficult to track down. The Russian word Bystro means "rapidly", or "hurry". Legend has it that Russian soldiers occupying France after the Napoleonic Wars would demand that French civilians serve food quickly, and would bang their fists on the table and shout "Bystro! Bystro!" at them. However, this explanation is disputed as there is no known recorded usage of Bistro before the 1880s. Vienna Bistro's dining room, with its rich wooden floor and peach- marbled walls, has the familiarity of your favorite traditional bistro in Europe. The various meat dishes come with distinctive sauces, all smooth and flavorful. The service is professional and discreet.
The most frequently-cited etymology of the word Bistro is French. Bistraud, from a dialect in the historical region of west-central France, means "lesser servant". Bistrouille, an everyday term from northern France, means "a mixture of brandy and coffee". Bistrot is the closest form of Bistro today, which is French for "tavern".

Many curious diners have tried to explain what a Bistro is. Some think it is only a coffee shop, and it's been described as a place where you eat on the patio. When bistro is mentioned, some words that come to mind are: casual, intimate, relaxed, romantic, and cozy. Our very own Vienna Bistro has been featured in local films!
